Zombie Films

Jul 5, 2005

Looking to watch the cream of the zombie-film crop? Well look no more. All films should be watched in the following order (at least for the front 6 or 7).

Night of the Living Dead (Millenium Edition or Free Version) Dawn of the Dead (Ultimate Edition, especially extended version and Argento Version) Day of the Dead Land of the Dead Zombi (Lucio Fulci) Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetary Man — one of the best) Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things (should be given a MST3K treatment during viewing) Shock Waves (John Carradine, Nazi zombies, and Peter Cushing) Re-Animator (based losely on the Lovecraft tale) Return of the Living Dead (first of the ‘fast’ zombies) Return of the Living Dead 2 (basically the same movie as the first, but better) Return of the Living Dead 3 (not very good, but worthwhile for the really bad 80s punk rockers and completeness) Brain Dead (aka. Dead Alive) The Beyond Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake by Tom Savini — pretty good) Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake — great first-15-minutes) City of the Living Dead Tombs of the Blind Dead / Return of the Blind Dead (Ossorio’s Templar zombies) Burial Ground (one of the worst movies ever, but extremely unintentionally funny — worthwhile seeing for the freaky man-boy Michael)

Stay away from: Hell of the Living Dead Zombi Holocaust (aka Dr. Butcher MD — bad bad bad) Nightmare City Zombie Nightmare (unless MST3K version) Redneck Zombies (bad bad bad — but not bad enough to be enjoyable [see CSPWDT and Burial Ground above]) Zombie 90: Extreme Pestilence Erotic Nights of the Living Dead (just plain stupid)
